The latest General meeting of the 2022/23 academic year was held on Thursday 10th November via MS Teams – preceded by a Communities Zone hosted by Vice President Communities, Jess Reid.

There was a busy programme of motions to debate and discuss during the meeting.

Schedule Two (Elections and Referenda) Update Motion 
This motion proposed changes to Schedule Two (Elections and Referenda) to ensure governance within the Students’ Union is up to date and in line with best practices. Changes include clarifying budgets, removing barriers which may have prevented students from standing, clarifying the nomination process and more, with the aim of simplifying and making the process of running in an Election easier moving forward. The submitted amendment to the motion (to clarify printing allowance) was passed and once part of the substantive motion, was passed by the meeting.
Motion passed.

Student Representation Reform Motion
This motion sought to provide clarity on a previous motion called ‘Effective Union Representation’ and outlines when comment should be provided by the Officer team.
Motion passed.

Housing Emergency Motion
This motion focused on continued advocacy on housing rights. The submitted amendment to the motion (to incorporate the Housing Forum) was passed and once part of the substantive motion, was passed by the meeting.
Motion passed.

UCU Motion
The motion laid out the reasons why the Union should support the upcoming University and College Union (UCU) strikes.
Motion passed.

Llama's Removal Motion
This motion sought to cease the use of Llama’s and live animals within Union Events.
Motion fell.

Plant-Based Commitment Motion
This motion sought to see a transition towards a plant-based food system begin within Stirling Students’ Union, with the intention of 50% plant-based being achieved by the beginning of the 2023/24 Academic Year - with 100% to be achieved in no later than 2025.
Motion passed.
