Sports Union Ball

The Sports Union Awards Ball is the biggest celebration in the Stirling sporting calendar, recognising the achievements of students, teams, coaches, and volunteers across all levels of sport. Join us for an evening of awards and celebration!

Dates will be announced throughout the academic year to bring you all the key information regarding the nomination process for Awards, the date of the Awards Ball as well as on sale dates for tickets.

Please note that tickets are only available to paid Sports Union members. No membership, no ticket.

Awards up for grabs.

Sports Union Colours

  • Presented to individuals whose loyalty and commitment to a particular club or sport can be said to be "exceptional".
  • Nominees should be 4th Years who have sat on a club or the executive committee for 2 years.

Airthrey Trophy - Outstanding Sportsperson

  • This Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding sportsperson of the year (Non-Bursar).

Catriona Lambert Medal - Outstanding Scholar

  • The Catriona Lambert Medal is awarded to the most outstanding sports person of the year (bursar).

Eilidh McNab & Siobhan Cattigan Trophy - Volunteer of the Year

  • This is presented to the individual who has made the biggest voluntary impact

Michael Stewart Memorial Trophy - Volunteer Coach of the Year

  • This award is presented for the best volunteer coach at the University.

Peter Bilsborough Trophy - Professional Coach of the Year

  • This award is to acknowledge the efforts of the most successful professional Sports Union coach, as part of the Sports Union’s extended policy to award proficient personnel who excel in their field.

Club Development Award - Sponsored by Alexis Rose

  • This is presented to the club who has displayed success in developing over the season in question taking into account membership growth and improvement in member experience. 
  • Membership Growth: Evidence of membership increase and specific initiatives implemented to recruit new members.
  • Improved Club Management: Examples of enhanced club administration, including the creation and execution of effective development plans.
  • Competitive Success: Demonstrable improvements in competition performance, with details of the strategies or actions that led to these achievements.
  • Inclusion and Diversity: Initiatives that foster greater inclusion and diversity within the club.
  • Overall Progression: Substantial growth and advancement over the academic year in all or a combination of the above areas.

University Blues

  • Awarded to athletes competing at a high level within student sport.

International Blues

  • Awarded to athletes representing their country in international competition.

The Dumyat Plate - Best Non-BUCS Achievement

  • This Trophy is awarded to a Club or Individual on the basis of best non-BUCS achievement.

Gannochy Jubilee Trophy - One-off Club Achievement

  • This Trophy is awarded to a club in recognition of an outstanding ‘one-off’ achievement by a team during the year.

H.H Donnelly Trophy - Club of the Year - Sponsored by BE Uniforms

  • This trophy is awarded to the most outstanding club of the year and is probably the most keenly sought after trophy within the Sports Union.

The Presidents’ Award

  • President picks this individual

Sports Personality of the Year - Sponsored by BE Uniforms

  • This Trophy is awarded to the Individual who is generally accepted as having given exceptional service to the Sports Union or one of its Clubs.
