Academic Reps and Faculty Officers

Academic Representatives help make sure students’ voices are heard. They act as a link between students, the Students’ Union, and the University, so feedback and ideas from their programme year group are shared and acted on. Each Faculty has a Faculty Officer for each of undergraduate, taught postgraduate, and research postgraduate students. They support Academic Reps, attend Faculty meetings, and work with the Vice President Education to create a sense of academic community.

What do Academic Reps do?

Gather feedback – Talk to students in your year group about what’s going well and what could be improved in their courses, teaching, assessments, and resources.

Share concerns and ideas – Bring this feedback to academic staff through Staff Student Voice Committees and the SU so action can be taken.

Help find solutions – Work in partnership with staff to improve courses, respond to survey results, and suggest new ideas for the future.

Communicate updates – Let students know what changes are happening as a result of their feedback, so everyone can see the impact of their input.

Represent your Programme – Work with other Reps across your Programme and year to make sure all students are represented fairly and consistently.

Steps to becoming a rep

  1. Sign up to become an Academic Representative here!
  2. Complete the Independent Online Training Module. This should take you less than one hour, but take it at your own pace. It involves tutorials such as how to register as an academic rep and how to upload your hours for transcript recognition.
  3. Complete the activity task to complete your online training to confirm attendance and submit your activity task.
  4. You will also have to attend a face-to-face/online training session.

By becoming an Academic Rep, you will:

  • Build confidence in skills, including communication, public speaking, leadership, and data analysis
  • Gain recognition through your Academic Transcript, Volunteering Hub, Saltire Award, My Stirling Award, as well as on your CV
  • Meet new people, including other students and staff throughout the institution
  • Receive training on how to gather feedback and give a voice to students just like you!

Our Faculty Officers.

The team of Faculty officers are paid Senior Academic Reps who:

  • Represent students at Faculty and University level and provide strategic input to enhance learning, teaching, and the student experience
  • Support the Academic Representative network
  • Collaborate with the Students’ Union on academic matters and events
