Stirling Students' Union has launched a new democratic structure, and there are more ways than ever for ordinary students to get involved.
At the heart, is Student Council, where your Sabbatical Officers sit alongside Campaign Officers, and student reps from Societies, Sports and Education. Big decisions, campaign ideas, and referenda all pass through here, and it's open to anyone who wants to make change.
If you're into clubs and societies, the Societies Executive is where funding decisions and new group proposals get discussed and voted on, and there's room on it for regular society members, not just committee heads. Sports teams have their own equivalent through the Sports Executive, and if academic issues are more relevant, the Education Executive brings together Faculty Officers and Academic Reps to raise concerns that matter to students.
Don't fancy a formal committee? Action Groups are informal, flexible and open to any student who wants to campaign on an issue they care about, from housing to sustainability. There's also the Equalities Forum, a space for students affected by discrimination or marginalisation to speak up and have that fed directly into Union decision-making.
Want more of a voice for a specific community or cause? Look out for elections to become an Equalities Officer, a Campaign Officer, or a Postgraduate Officer, all voluntary roles designed to represent students like you.
