The autumn semester gets closer and we want to continUe with the latest information to keep you up-to-speed. If you've recently confirmed you're joining us - congratulations! The information below is for everyone and of course, if you've any questions, get in touch.

Latest University information
You may have seen that the University has issued further guidance regarding international students arriving from red-list countries are now able to complete their quarantine in a University managed accommodation at no cost. You can read more about this and the important role your Union Officers played to help secure this in our news article. To access the latest information provided by the University, check out their dedicated Coronavirus website. Further information on what's happened at the University to welcome in the new semester can be found on the dedicated induction website.

Vaccinations
The on-campus vaccination centre is now open. Anyone living in Scotland who requires a first or second dose of the vaccine can attend the new vaccination centre, including international students arriving on campus and those not yet registered with a GP. Further information on the centre can be accessed  on this dedicated page.

STEER
STEER is a University-wide peer support scheme linking in returning student 'Captains' with new undergraduate or taught post-graduate 'Crew', during their first year at Stirling. Whether based overseas, here for a semester abroad, undergrad or postgrad, our Captains can help everyone with the transition of settling into life at the University of Stirling

The scheme aims to help students make the most of their time at the University by helping new students - the Crew - settle in and realise the opportunities available to them.

Students can sign up as Crew at any time during their first year. There are also occasions where we accept Crew from higher years if students feel that they would greatly benefit from this level of support.  If this is you, and you are in second year or above, please email steer@stir.ac.uk and we can allocate a Captain to you in the same way.

STEER - Pandemic Pals

Building on the success of STEER and as a result of student feedback, we have identified that students may simply want to chat to other students while we all navigate these unusual times! Whether it's about Halls, what you're studying, where you're from - our Pandemic Pals scheme is here to help. It's open to all students (so not just returning students looking to help new) and we will aim to match you with someone who has similar interests.

Freshers 2021
We're pleased to have launched our day-time Freshers programme. There's loads going on from welcome weekend to free pizza from Freshers sponsor Domino's to clubs/sports Fayres and so much more. We're finalising the details for Freshers Week events in the Union and are excited to be able to share these soon.

We'll also be introducing your to own very own F Team - a group of current students who are best placed to help guide you through all the need to know info at the start of a new term.

We'll share all the relevant information with you on our official Freshers group on Facebook. Join today on the official group.

Clubs/Socs & Sports club membership
One of the most exciting and rewaring parts of University life is engagement with clubs, societies and sports teams. The team are working hard ahead of the new semester and always keen to celebrate successes. Recently, we had 3 sports clubs who won across 3 different categories at the Scottish Student Sport Awards including our Movember campaign team winning for their collaborative work, raising almost £40k in 2020! Memberships for all are now open and you can check our the full list of clubs and socs and sports teams on the Union website.

How to contact Officers
As we continue towards the new semester, please remember you can check out the Union’s advocacy service and the University’s Student support services should you need to contact these services. You can also get in touch with the Officer team or email us at theunion@stir.ac.uk
