The first General meeting of 2021 took place via MS Teams on Thursday 21st January - it was great to see so many students join Officers to discuss and debate motions and here the latest from Officers on their on-going work.
At the meeting, Officers gave the following updates (amongst other things):
Union President: Has been working on an online consultation with the University of the Gender Based Violence (GBV) strategy. She has also been working on arranging leadership training for underrepresented groups ahead of the Union Elections.
Vice President Education: Working on the ‘no detriment policy’ and promised to keep students updated as soon as there are any changes/info on this. She is keen to continue to engage with Climate Emergency volunteers.
Vice President Communities: Working with Clubs & Societies, Officers and with STEER on various projects. Has also been in a number of meetings with UCU, University Court and with Accommodation Services.
Sports President: Difficulties with hosting physical sport due to COVID restrictions but the Sports Union is still very active and taking part in charity efforts and a few clubs successfully received Stirling Fund money for training opportunities. Clubs are being encouraged to continue to engage with their members and do what they can online.
There was discussion and debate on 3 motions - to lobby Government to replace the ERASMUS scheme, for NUS to support Tenant Unions and to support increased digital access. You can read the motions here. You can also see the meeting agenda and minutes from the meeting will be added shortly. Now these motions have passed, Officers will be working to submit to the relevant NUS Spring Conference.
If you have any questions or queries from these, please contact any of the Sabbatical Officers via their pages here.
