February lockdown update

Following the update from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on Tuesday 2nd February, Scotland remains in the highest level of restrictions which have now been extended until the end of February. The latest information from Scottish Government regarding Universities can be found here.

As we continue into another period of lockdown, we wanted to share some useful links and info to anyone who may be struggling. Feel free to share these around!

You'll find a link to our advocacy service here as we've heard recently about students being disciplined for breaching covid rules over the last semester, and we'd like everyone to know that we're here to provide independent guidance through any disciplinary proceedings.

From discussing the impact of your education (and the issue of no detriment) to the practicalities surrounding your accommodation, we'll continue to ensure the student voice is head and considered in all decision making. You can read the work that is taking place alongside NUS Scotland other Officers in a letter to the First Minster from over 60 Officers (including our own) to ensure the issues affecting students are addressed. You can read the letter here.

We'd also really like to do what we can to support students to stick to the current lockdown rules and acknowledge the difficulties in doing so, here are some more useful links if you're struggling with social isolation:

You can always reach out to the Officer team as well and we'll do our best to assist in any way we can. You can find more information on how to contact us here. We'd really like to hear from you and find out what else it is you'd like to see us doing to help support you right now.

Further support:

  • The University’s Student Support Hub is available for all students and they have a helpful Live Chat function you can access via your portal.
  • TogetherAll is available to all students to seek further information and support your mental health.
  • Don’t hesitate to reach out to your tutors and lecturers too, especially if you require extra support with your studies.
  • Financial support is available to students who are facing financial difficulties during this period. A range of Student Hardship Funds are available – to find out more, or to apply click here.

Please note that due to the lockdown, our Union physical and online Shop is currently closed. We will update on our website as soon as we're able to re-open either or both.

Finally, we want all our members (that's you, the entire student body!) to know that we're here for you throughout your studies and that we're proud to represent you. Keep yourselves and each other safe by following Scottish Government guidance (the more we can stick to the regulations and stop prevalance, the sooner we can get out of lockdown), washing your hands regularly, wearing a face covering which covers both your nose and mouth and looking out for one another by socially distancing.
