Our annual RATE Awards celebrate and recognise staff throughout the University, from lecturers and tutors to professional services, support staff and Faculty Officers.

Student Services of the Year

The University doesn't just offer excellent learning and teaching opportunities but also offers a range of different services that work with students to ensure that our time at University is the best it can be. This award is to recognise the hard work of all the student services at the University.

Outstanding Commitment to Innovation in Blended Learning

Does one of your lecturers or tutors use online or hybrid content (ie. Canvas, Teams, or other blended learning tools) in an innovative way that helps connect you with your peers and teacher? Has this helped you engage more and feel like you are part of the University community? If so, then you should nominate them for this award!

Faculty Officer of the Year

Our Faculty Officers are key to ensuring all students get the best from their University experience! Has there been an Officer who has gone above and beyond their role and remit; challenging, supporting and contributing in an effective and efficient manner to represent students and the Faculty itself?

Faculty of the Year

An award for the Faculty which has provided students with any of the following; excellent choice in modules, support in learning, quality teaching, assessment and feedback, strong organisation and management structure, personal development opportunities and an abundance of professional and personal resources.

Tutor of the Year

Our Faculty Officers are key to ensuring all students get the best from their University experience! Has there been an Officer who has gone above and beyond their role and remit; challenging, supporting and contributing in an effective and efficient manner to represent students and the Faculty itself?

Research Postgraduate Supervisor of the Year

Your thesis is one of the most important aspects of your postgraduate journey, and it's vital that the staff member who supervises you is able to guide and support you.  If your supervisor has gone the extra mile to assist your progress, this is the award for them.

Excellence in Teaching

An award for the Teacher of the Year in the each Faculty, who demonstrates their passion, dedication and love of the subject, and always goes the extra mile to ensure each student's learning and teaching experience is the best it can be.

Professional Services and Support Staff of the Year

We don't just want to hear about fantastic teaching - all the staff at the University work tirelessly to ensure your time here is the best it can be.  From administrators, to technicians, to porters, to student advisors, if there's a member of staff in a non-teaching role who has been there to help & support you then this is the award for them.

Outstanding Commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

An award that recognises the outstanding work of any staff member towards the promotion of diversity in their teaching, providing equality opportunities and creates a teaching environment where everyone feels included and able to participate. Regardless of their subject area, this staff member’s teaching actively provides a platform for diverse voices and shares their passion for equality.

Outstanding Commitment to Sustainability

An award that recognises the outstanding work of any staff member towards local, regional or global sustainable development as set out by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Whether their subject is environmental science, gender equality, health and wellbeing, or responsible business management, this staff member’s teaching actively promotes and shares their passion for a more sustainable world.

Outstanding Commitment to Accessibility and Inclusion in Blended Learning

An award that recognises the outstanding work of any staff member towards the promotion of accessibility and inclusion when conducting blended learning. With the ongoing move into blended learning this year, accessibility and an inclusive blended teaching environment for all has become even more critical. Has your lecturer shown exceptional commitment and diligence to accessibility and inclusion when teaching both online and in-person teaching this year?
