It’s been quite a busy first 3 weeks in office here in the Sports Union. It had taken a bit of time for me to settle in and find my feet within the new role but it’s now something I can safely say I am relishing and cannot wait to hit the ground running when you guys return in September.

Week 1:
Starting the job on a Thursday was actually quite the thing. Come 5pm on the Friday I think my brain was properly fried with all the new information and meeting all the new faces I will be working with over the next year. On the Thursday, each of the 4 Sabbs met with senior management over an informal lunch which was pretty much like being thrown in at the deep end. On the Friday I met with the Gannochy staff to ensure that the relationship that we currently have with the guys down there is maintained.

Week 2:
The second week was just pretty much filled with conversations with Jess about the key events over the next few months and what I planned on achieving during my term. Some of the things we discussed were the likes of Sports Ball, Clubs Academy, Sports Bazaar and the new kit deal that we are going to be looking again in the next few weeks. The incoming and outgoing Sabbs also had a meal with the Principal and University Secretary which happened to fall on the same night as the election so it’s fair to say that was a late night!

Week 3:
That week was by far the most fun! Jess and I were away at SSS Conference from the Monday – Wednesday of this week and that was a great experience and good fun. This is where I met each of the other Sports Presidents from the other Scottish universities and also attended the Annual Awards dinner on the Tuesday evening which proved hugely successful for Stirling! Our golf team won Team of the Year for the second year running and swimmer Duncan Scott came away with Male Athlete of the Year. Finally, our two high-performance swim coaches Ben Higson and Steve Tigg took away the Coach of the Year award. After all the hard work over the last year as well, Stirling were also awarded 4 stars for their efforts in the Healthy Body Healthy Mind campaign. I was also present at the Open Day all day on Saturday meeting perspective students with an interest in our sports teams – again another successful day!
