December General Meeting Outcomes

All motions submitted were passed by members!

Stirling SU GM, 11th December 2025 

On Thursday, the 11th of December Stirling SU held the last general meeting of the year. Five policies were submitted, including the new schedules for the SU, the culmination of the work of the democracy review over the past year.  

Prior to the motions section of the meeting, all four officers submitted their reports, and these were voted on and all accepted by members.  

The first motion submitted was on the recent restructure and changes to the university. It calls on the SU to convey to the university that students are feeling the impact of the changes and have serious concerns about the process and the outcome of them. To also make it clear to the university that whilst not currently a proposal the students union does not support under any circumstances further redundancies either compulsory or is voluntary severance whilst other savings may be available elsewhere. 

This motion passed 85 votes in favour and one against. 

The second motion was a trans solidarity motion, to make clear the Students’ Union’s support for trans students.  

This motion passed with 78 votes in favour and six abstentions. 

Third motion was brought to require the SU to make drinks spike testing kits available to society and club committees in order for them to make use of them at the events run by these student groups. The motion was amended in the meeting to include sports clubs.  

The motion passed with 83 votes in favour, one against and two abstentions. 

The fourth motion was in relation to AI usage in the university. It requires the SU to run a campaign regarding student use of AI and was amended in the meeting as well in order to add the requirement to lobby the university regarding the ethical impacts of AI usage. 

The motion was passed with 67 votes in favour, two votes against and 14 abstentions 

The final motion was for the new schedules of the SU. There was a discussion, with no amendments submitted. 

The motion passed with 67 votes in favour, one against and 12 abstentions. 

The SU will make further announcements on when each schedule takes effect, but all will be in place before the start of the next academic year.
