#LEENONME!

Hii! My name is Leen Ali, I’m a 4th-year Sociology & Social Policy student and the current President of the African-Caribbean Society and I am excited to be running for student union president!

Accessibility

I am passionate about making sure that everyone has equal access to the resources they need. The cost-of-living crisis is affecting us all, but students should not have to bear the brunt of it. I am going to work with the university and the bus company to make bus services more accessible and reliable for students from all backgrounds. Additionally, I am going to work on improving seating space, library hours, food options (vegans, vegetarians, and Muslims I hear you!), and more. I will also be hosting “ask me anything!” sessions, where students can drop in and basically ask me anything! Potential solutions include improving existing booking systems. My goal is to make sure that everyone has the support they need to succeed.

Wellbeing

I am on a mission to make our campus a safe and secure place for all students. I am deeply committed to improving the physical and mental well-being of all students, especially those who are vulnerable and marginalized. I will be taking a hard look at current policies and safety measures, identifying areas that need improvement, and working tirelessly to ensure that everyone feels safe and secure. This includes considering campus lighting issues and working to ensure quality accommodations and facilities with aim of improving overall well-being.

Inclusion & Diversity

I am absolutely passionate about creating a student community that is inclusive and diverse. Everyone deserves to feel valued and supported, and I am determined to make that a reality. That's why I'm going above and beyond to create events that cater to non-drinkers. I will also be working alongside the National Union of Students and the University College Union as well as supporting the current strikes. This will strengthen, engage and create an inclusive student population that were previously disenfranchised.

Communication

I'm all about making sure our voices are heard and that we have a say in what's happening on campus. My top priority is to act as your go-between with the administration, ensuring your ideas, opinions, and concerns are getting through loud and clear. I want to create opportunities for us to get more involved in campus life, bringing us all closer together. Think about it, wouldn't it be awesome if we could use the Macroberts Arts Centre and digital screens around the atrium to showcase our own cool student-run projects and events? I'm all about making that happen, and I'll work with the university to get it done. Let's make our university experience even better by keeping each other in the loop about all the cool stuff happening on campus.

I am absolutely passionate about making a difference for you. As your President, I promise to give it my all and ensure that your needs are met and your voices are heard where possible.
