Jack STILL Don’t Slack!

Hello! My name is Jack Williamson and I am standing for re-election as your SSU Arts Officer. I’m a third year student at UoS studying to become an English teacher, with a deep knowledge of and interest in the arts. I believe that the experience I’ve gained from my degree and the past year of holding this role, as well as my love of the arts, make me a prime candidate for re-election to this role.

Last Year’s Accomplishments!

As the first ever Arts Officer, I created the Arts Union, a group of representatives from each Arts Society which met twice a semester to foster collaboration between the societies and create opportunities for students interested in the arts on campus. We worked together in the context of COVID-19 to pool resources and discuss innovative responses to the challenge of holding society meetings online. I’ve developed a close working relationship with VP Communities and the Activities and Volunteer Coordinator as we made significant progress in overseeing the development of Airthrey Cottage, meeting with Estates Services and giving the Arts Societies regular updates on the situation as it evolved.

This Year’s Goals!

Due to COVID-19, a number of goals related to Airthrey Cottage have been delayed. I hope that this year I will be able to assist the Performing Arts Societies in getting back into their shared space there. As well as continuing to represent the Arts Societies’ interests, two further goals I will pursue are creating an itemised inventory of the Cottage’s contents and working with the Students’ Union to create a centralised booking system for the Cottage.
