Widening access will be our success

Hi everyone, I’m Jamie and I am a 2nd Year International Politics student here at Stirling University.  I want to set out to you why you should vote for me to be your Non-traditional Students Officer.  In education everyone should have an equal opportunity to flourish as much as they can in their learning no matter what your background is or stage in life.  Whether you’re a mature student, integrated degree programme student or a care experienced student, no one should be left struggling or left behind.

I want to make sure that we are widening access to Education for everyone, and my manifesto aims to do just that, so here are my pledges to you:

Mature Students:

For many mature students it’s difficult to juggle family life and your studies.  It’s time we look at how we can make flexible learning possible for those who have family commitments.

I will –

  • Support the development and work alongside the mature student’s society to make sure that your views are always being heard.
  • Work with the VP Education and the University to see how we can make learning more flexible for mature students who have childcare responsibilities.

Integrated Degree Students:

For many integrated degree programme students there are many challenges in the way such as finding where they fit in, engaging in student life and accessing appropriate support services.

If elected I pledge to:

  • Work with the university to improve the transition and induction process for Forth Valley college students.
  • Improve how our Union engages with Forth Valley

Care Experienced Students:

There is certainly more work that our Union and University can be doing to further support care experienced students however this has to come from the students with those experiences themselves.

So, if elected I pledge to work with the VP Education to establish a Care Experienced Steering group to here directly from you what we should be doing to help support you in your studies.
