I love Stirling because...of the great social life and the range of sporting opportunities!

Favourite student moment...winning an electric guitar in a dance-off!!

My Top 5 Priorities for the Year

  • #Facilities I want to work with students and the university to emphasise the need for new sports facilities and have a commitment in place for their development.

  • #Alumni I want to build better links with our alumni and create a Sports Union network that people remain a part of long after they have left Stirling. To initiate this we aim to hold a 50th Anniversary celebration for the Sports Union in 2017.

  • #BleedGreen I aim to build on the progress we made last year with promoting Stirling sporting achievements and the Stirling Sport (#BleedGreen) brand as a whole.

  • #Coaching Improve access to coaching opportunities and support for club members to develop themselves individually and gain expertise which can benefit their clubs.

  • #Kit Use this year to establish the best possible deal with a kit supplier and ensure all teams come under the same provider to increase opportunities to further promote the brand of Stirling Sport.

Conference Lyf                                                               05/07/2016

The summer is definitely conference season, with the Scottish Student Sport conference in June and then the BUCS Conference in July! This year’s BUCS conference was hosted by the University of Warwick and was a week full of fantastic keynote speeches and breakout sessions with the majority of the University and College sport sector. As with any sport conference comes some form of sporting competition and I’m pleased to say #TeamScotland represented very well in the BUCS Sports Day, coming a solid second overall to London! I’m also proud to announce that Stirling were shortlisted for 3 awards at the BUCS Awards Dinner, one of which we managed to win – the BUCS Most Improved University. For BUCS to recognise all of the hard work that has gone into improving our standings in the league table, noting how difficult it is to move ten places within the top 30, was incredible!

The rest of the summer has been used to start laying down plans for the coming year. A particular highlight that I’m working towards is a Sports Alumni Event – a Sports Union Reunion! With the University’s 50th Anniversary coming up next year it seems like the perfect excuse to bring together everyone that has ever been involved in sport at Stirling. This will be a huge project combining the Sports Union and the University and is something that I will continue to update on throughout the year so look out for that!

Finally, (after what feels like eight years!) Jacqui, Jason and I were able to confirm all training times for all clubs this year – not an easy or fun job, I promise! These will be sent out to all clubs over the next week so you can all prepare for the coming year. I’m heading off to BUCS Conference next week so will report back on how that goes in the next blog…

With two weeks to go until Freshers, it’s all going on in the Students’ Union! Give It a Go events have come together and the Sports Bazaar is ready to go so I have no doubt all of our sports teams will put on a great performance when it comes to welcoming and recruiting new members this year.

#Round2                                                                05/07/2016

One month into #Round2 of Sports President and there’s already quite a bit to report… We ended a fantastic year of Stirling Sport with a very impressive 17th in the BUCS League Table – an incredible ten places above our final position last year! We had a number of notable achievements from our teams over the 2015-16 season, but special mentions would have to go to the Golf Team and the Women’s Tennis Team – both of whom were BUCS Champions!

In the second week of June, Stirling hosted the annual Scottish Student Sport (SSS) Conference, which was a huge success! It was a great few days where I was able to meet the new intake of Sports Presidents from across the country (and say a sad goodbye to the old team) and hear from a number of fantastic speakers and sports industry professionals. I learnt a lot and will hopefully be able to apply it to the Sports Union over the coming year here at Stirling. Another highlight was being elected as the Chair of the Elected Students (Sports Presidents) in Scotland, meaning I get to represent not only Stirling this year, but Scottish Student Sport at national BUCS meetings.

Finally, (after what feels like eight years!) Jacqui, Jason and I were able to confirm all training times for all clubs this year – not an easy or fun job, I promise!
