Who we are

The Stirling University Scottish Nationalist Association (SUSNA) is the SNP society on campus. We represent members of the SNP here at the University of Stirling, however, you don't need to be a member of the SNP to be a part of SUSNA! We are affiliated with the national body for Scottish Nationalist Students, SNP Students (FSN). We are one of the oldest societies within the University of Stirling Students Union, with almost 6 decades of history. We have been at the forefront of the Scottish Nationalist Movement since the 1960's, and we continue to advocate for Scottish Independence, social justice, and progressive policies for students. We are a left-wing organisation, believing in democracy, social justice, and Scottish Independence.

In 1961, The Federation of Student Nationalists (FSN) is formed to be a strong, pro-independence voice for students in Scotland. Key founding figures in the birth of the FSN include Neil MacCormick and Allan Macartney, who would both go on to be SNP Members of the European Parliament. Later, the FSN will rename itself to SNP Students. SNP Students has 5800 members across 10 Scottish Universities, with SUSNA being a big part of this!

For our members, we hold general meetings at least once a month to discuss the general activities of SUSNA. We also hold campaign meetings regularly, where members discuss strategies for campaigning and policy. You may see us at stalls on campus, or handing out leaflets to promote the case for independence and engage with students! We work closely with our local SNP branches and with the local Constituency Association (CA) through campaigning for local candidates, attending branch and CA meetings, and promoting party policies on campus! SUSNA, as part of SNP Students, travels across Scotland to rally and campaign for different causes. We are often seen at Pro-Independence marches, picket lines, Pride marches, and many more! We also host regular socials for members to get to know each other better. We often plan pub crawls, pints and policy, quiz nights, and more, all led by our Social Secretary! Our socials are a great way to meet fellow members and make new friends! Alcohol is always optional at all of our social events!
