Jamie Grant

Communication. Cooperation. Community.

WHO ARE YOU?

My name is Jamie Grant, a third year Politics student. In my time at Stirling, I've been involved with numerous societies, and sat on the committees of two - both in the capacity of Publicity Officer/Secretary. Given that one was a sports team, this has provided me with great experience of the sports union, it's workings and it's culture - which would benefit this role. I enjoy political commentary and have offered various contributions to Brig. I also like to pitch in where possible when it comes to the Student Union, and was a member of the Election Committee last year.

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING?

I'm running for this position to help the Student Union improve the lives of the students they represent. Investing time in a Club or Society means investing time in your future. When you walk out those doors for the last time, it won't be the 4AM late night essays or the hungover presentations you'll remember: It'll be cycling down the coast of Barcelona with new friends, or getting that win at a sport you've only just started. It's that sort of experience that makes university, and I'd love to play a part in exposing students to the often neglected offerings of their university and student union.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO?

  1. Communication: 'I want people to know what we do, and what we offer'.

Students, the Student Union and the organisations who offer positions all have an interest in seeing them filled. I'd collaborate extensively with the media societies, to ensure we utilise every means at our disposal telling students what the union is doing, what it is offering and how they can get involved. This would likely take the form of AirTV spots, Air3 plugs and a regular section in the Brig. Heavy use of social media channels is also up for consideration.

  1. Cooperation: 'Push for greater coordination between stakeholders on and off campus'.

It is my hope to extend an invitation to external players and ask them to invest in our community. By developing such links, I'd like to grow the range of opportunities that students can draw on for experience and voluntary work. It is my desire to advocate the incredible skill and talent pool that already exists in our students, and convince organisations of how much they stand to gain in such partnerships. I'd push Clubs & Societies to encourage their members to run for internal committee positions, as this will serve only enhance their individual community, but the student experience as a whole.

  1. Community: 'Enhance and expand our campus network, and bring our brilliance together'.

Countless people all play a part in fostering a sense of belonging here at Stirling. I will seek new ways of building friendship with our fellow students at Forth Valley College, and would also like to promote inter-university relations; the value of this has only been reinforced through my experiences with other institutions, and what they can contribute.
