Active Participation: “Encouraging those who are not part of a sports club to take part in events that encourage physical activity and sporting occasions (Be that through playing team/individual sports or through media coverage or coaching.”

Aim to achieve this by encouraging more cooperation between university sporting teams and the media societies on campus in order to come up with new ways of promoting their sport to the whole of campus. Will also look to improve current links with local Stirling clubs and Active Stirling to publicise more coaching and volunteering experiences for students, which will create more ties and future promise to improve community relations.

Core Skills: “Giving people the opportunity to gain essential skills from sport, which can then be used for future careers and employability.”

Use the links with Active Stirling and other sporting bodies to help promote volunteering and coaching opportunities for students.

Individual Potential: “Allowing individuals to gain confidence through sport (being able to put your ideas forward and making an impact on your ability.

Allowing for all students to have their say in how the Sport Union operates and how they can make their own impact.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE –

1.Sports Participation and Engagement Officer (September 2014- June 2015)

Roles included:

  • Encouraging all students to participate in sport zone activities, with a particular emphasis on improving employability.
  • Liaised with students who have not been traditionally engaged in sports and encourage them to take up an active role supporting and within the Union sport zone.
  • Involved with projects which addressed key issues within disability sports and ways to promote current and new sports, media coverage of university sport and the promotion of the Inaugural ‘Women In Sport’ conference concerning sporting bias and gender discrimination in sport.
  • Assisted with various sports union events, including the Sports Ball and Sports Union quiz.

 

2.Play Sport Promoter for Scottish Student Sport (September 2014- June 2015)

Roles included:

  • Represented and promoted SSS sport events at universities throughout the year
  • Promoted aspects of SSS regional sport activity to student bodies
  • Worked with regional planning groups to promote SSS sporting events
  • Attended regional meetings to represent the student community
  • Attended specific participation, engagement and disability workshops throughout the year
  • Worked on a yearlong project involving inner club relations and dynamics between different levels of ability within certain university sports clubs. Presented findings and observations to SSS Regional planning groups in order to improve relations between team players and social members.

 

3.Sports Union Intern (September 2013 – June 2014)

Roles included:

  • Assisted with day to day administrative duties within the sports union office including club finances, budgeting and publishing of the weekly newsletter of that year.
  • Helped design a Logo for the Women in Sport conference that was used in order to publicise the event.
  • Helped plan and organise Sports Ball at Murrayfield and other sports union events.
