Who Am I?

I’m Greg Mihill, a third year student studying Primary Education and I’m running for Sports Union President. I have been a member of the Sports Union and a member of Trampoline and Gymnastics since I arrived.

Why I am Running…

I’m currently in my second year as President of the Trampoline and Gymnastics club, during which time there has been much improvement. I have broad experience of other sports and have played many throughout my life. I will bring a fresh perspective and interesting ideas and have the energy to make things happen. Recently I have been elected on to the Sports Union Executive Committee and feel I am able to see aspects of the Sports Union that can be improved. Running for election is a decision I have taken with a great deal of thought and I truly believe that I can make a difference.

What I aim to achieve…

I will enable wider participation in sports to accommodate and involve those not interested in competition.

I will increase the participation in sport through the introduction of a collegiate intra university sports competition.  This will include different sports to provide both access and friendly competition.

I will improve the provision of kit at university for all the different sports teams. Currently, both delivery and quality is unacceptable for this university’s standards and expectations.

I will continue to promote the university and its sporting excellence at every opportunity.

I will help the smaller clubs to be recognised for their achievements in order to help them grow, whilst continuing to help and support the more established sports.

Through the use of communicating with Fubar, I will make Wednesday nights the biggest and best social night of the week.

I will focus on the restructuring and improvement of transport provision for away fixtures.

I will work with the students to determine how we define success in the association which in turn will enable us to set clear and achievable goals. This will provide us with a stronger case to present when applying for funding.

I believe that coaching is the greatest factor in improving sporting performance and I will endeavour to do everything I can to help clubs hire and fund top level coaching staff.

I also want to see more students go through coaching courses and qualifications. I think that more can be done to advertise these opportunities and that they are an excellent chance to gain valuable experience which benefits both individuals and their clubs.
