Miss JESS MORRIS

Re-elect Jess Morris for Sports President! #Jessmo4Presmo #Round2

I’m Jess Morris and I’m re-running to be your Sports President 2016-17. I’ve been involved in the Sports Union at Stirling for the past five years in different capacities – as part of the Lacrosse Club, as two-time Dance President and most recently as your Sports President 2015-16! After being in the job for a year, I have learnt an invaluable amount about the running of the Sports Union and more importantly, what needs to be done to continue to improve it. With that in mind, this is what I will aim to do if re-elected for a second term:

Support for Sport

Facilities

  • We’re lucky to have the sports facilities that we do, but for years now we have been operating at maximum capacity, limiting opportunities for participation and meaning your clubs have to fight for every spare second of space – a battle that should not be necessary in a University trying to promote more activity.
  • Other Scottish institutions are investing millions of pounds in sports facilities and if we don’t act to improve ours quickly, we will find that Stirling will be left behind in both participation and performance sport.
  • As Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence, sport and the development of our facilities needs to be back on top of the University agenda and I will campaign to make this happen.

Coaching

  • Having coaches is a basic necessity for any sport at any level in order to improve. I want to give all clubs access to coaching opportunities by:
  • Sourcing more funding for coaches so every club has the option to benefit from sport-specific expertise.
  • Increasing availability and accessibility of coaching courses so members can gain qualifications and develop skills to benefit their clubs as well as their own sporting pathways.

Building the Brand

#BleedGreen

  • I aim to continue the work in establishing the brand of Stirling Sport by:
    • More widely spread recognition of sports team successes on social media platforms (Sports Union Snapchat!), television screens in the Gannochy and Studio and weekly fixture result updates in collaboration with Air3 Radio, AirTV and Brig.
    • Making every club within the Sports Union feel equally valued to create a sense of pride amongst all teams in being a part of the Sports Union and so continue to positively contribute to its reputation and achievements.

Kit

  • Our kit plays a huge role in the brand of Stirling Sport and finding a suitable supplier is an on-going challenge. I will aim to find the best deal for our teams next year to ensure we look as professional as possible on the field.

Stirling Sport

  • I aim to continue the strong links created this year with the Sports Development Service and the School of Sport so the Sports Union can benefit from a wide range of sporting expertise as well as be part of the wider body and more powerful voice of ‘Stirling Sport’ as a whole.
