A Bit About Me
My name is Kieran Daly; I’m a second year Film & Media and Journalism student. For the past two years I have dedicated a lot, if not most, of my free time to the societies that I have joined. In my first year I joined AirTv and Air3, and later went on to become the head of features for Air3. In my second year I joined Brig and Live Music Society as well as standing in the bi-elections as Media Officer.
Why Am I Running For Media Officer?
As Media Officer, one would have to serve as a representative to Union for the three media societies that we have on campus, and as a member of all three I want our voices to be heard. I feel know we have extremely strong groups on campus that coexist and work so well with each other, and that even share a few members, with that many people someone needs to be a representative. In my first year I failed to find a true outlet where I could have a voice and make a difference on campus, but in my second year I found it in the position of Media Officer. I want to bring the societies closer while also keeping them as their own separate entities.
My Plans
As I stated last year, proposing any sort of major idea or collaborative event at this point it time would be unfair and unprofessional, as a Media Officer is meant to be a representative to the media societies, and suggesting a collaboration without talking to the heads of all three media society heads first would be unfair, there is one planned exception, which I have discussed with this years Media Heads, to this which will be highlighted last after the other items I want to focus on:
- Ask heads of similar areas in media society to work together, ex. Air3 and Brig Heads of Sports potentially covering events with AirTv Heads of Features
- Inner society advertisement help, media societies promoting each others content
- Finding more unique and innovative ways of increasing media society outreach and coverage of events on and off campus
- Hosting a joint-media team building day, where members of different media societies will get to meet each other, this will be the first step in establishing a welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable in the media office and in other areas where media societies are present
