There are many ways to get active and participate in Sport at the University of Stirling. From a simple gym membership to taking part in a team sport with one or more of our amazing Sport Clubs, the choice is yours!
This section looks at explaining different ways to participate – some clubs are more competitive than others and you also have the choice between individual sport or team sport.
Some sports are classified as BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) sports – for team sports this usually means they will compete in the BUCS league which normally take place on Wednesday afternoons. Sports like Swimming, Climbing or Athletics have nationwide events on an annual basis. You can find more information about BUCS in the tab on the left. Although you don’t necessarily need to be a student to join our clubs, you will need to be a student in order to compete in BUCS competition as this is strictly University Sport.
The Scottish BUCS leagues are administered and organised by SSS (Scottish Student Sport). If you wish to compete in a Sport for which we do not offer a club, you can still enter competitions – all you need to do is contact us at email@example.com
In addition to BUCS league fixtures on Wednesdays Team sports will normally participate in and often also in a local Saturday league, which include non-University Sport Clubs. Even non-students can part-take in these provided they are members of the Sports Union and the relevant club.
The University’s Sport Development Services Department offers a range of friendly competitions for staff and students at the University of Stirling. These are called Intramural leagues/competitions. To find out more, and enter, please visit the University's page here.
