Making students' lives better is a key focus for the Students’ Union. Fundamental to this is providing students with safe and enjoyable venues to enjoy something to eat, drink and socialise. To ensure we keep to the highest possible standards in delivering for students, the Union has taken part in the national Best Bar None Awards for many years. Best Bar None is a national accreditation and award scheme for licensed premises. The Union proudly currently has gold standard accreditation which recognises good practice, safety, security and much more.

The whole Union team were thrilled to recently be confirmed as the winner of not one, but two national awards as part of the annual Best Bar None scheme. We have been recognised as the National Winner for Best Specialist Entertainment Venue as well as the Award for Social Responsibility and Innovation (the latter sponsored by Drinkaware). These awards take into account the training staff undertake, staff support for students through initiatives such as ‘Ask Angela’ and a customer focused approach which underpins all we provide.

These awards are so rewarding not only because it ensures we’re providing our members with the best possible student experience but it also recognises the incredible hard work of the Union’s commercial team which includes a mix of both permanent and part-time staff many of whom are students.

Speaking on the awards, the Union’s Commercial Manager Frances Slorance commented, "Getting these awards has been so rewarding to recognise the dedication and hard work of colleagues year after year to ensure we do all we can to provide the facilities and services that students want and deserve. We regularly take onboard feedback, develop new ideas and focus on delivery for students and look forward to continuing to welcome students to enjoy the variety of food, drink and entertainment options available in their Union."
