The Stirling University Socialist Society is a non-partisan society committed to the socialist principles of freedom, fairness and equality and dedicated to challenging the poverty, injustices and exploitation that come as a by-product of capitalist economics. We believe in a fairer world that puts peoples lives ahead of personal profit, and hope to bring together students with like-minded beliefs and encourgage greater engagement with Socialism. All students are welcome, from the committed to the curious to the conflicting, the door is always open.
We understand that there is not just one, but many paths to advancing socialist politics, and everyone should be given the opportunity to get their view across as well as hear the myriad of beliefs that fall under the banner of socialist ideology. We aim to do this through discussions and debate on contemporary political issues at every meeting; inviting in guest speakers from political parties; engaging with other political societies on campus and occasionally putting the world to rights after a long night in the students union.
While there is certainly going to be plenty of opportunity for exchanging ideas, we also believe in the importance of direct political engagement. Because of this, we will be organising trips to participate in political activism, public protests, educational events and more.
If this sounds like something that you would like to get involved in or have any questions about, feel free to send an email to any of the committee or check out the facebook page for updates as to what is going on.
