About the Sports Centre
In terms of variety, size and quality, the University has some of the finest sports facilities on a single site in the country. Students, staff and the general public use these extensively throughout the year.
The facilities include five grass pitches for soccer, rugby union, Gaelic and American Football; an all weather athletics track; two first class floodlit artificial pitches; a nine hole par-3 golf course; Airthrey Loch for angling and canoeing; a variety of jogging routes around the campus.
The sports centre contains: a sports hall with two basketball courts or eight badminton courts; three squash courts; four sports science laboratories; a fitness room containing some 50 items of cardio-vascular and fixed weight machines; a strength and conditioning centre (A Scottish Institute of Sport “Super-Centre”) containing lifting platforms, benches and sets of Olympic bars and dumb-bells.
A swimming pool (The National Swimming Academy) with a 50 metre, six-lane pool. This has a moveable been, which can split the pool into two 25-metre pools, and one of these has a moveable floor.
An indoor tennis centre (The National Tennis Centre) with 4 acrylic courts and two meeting rooms.
Access to the indoor facilities is by a membership card. This card enables you to use all the indoor facilities (except the indoor tennis courts for which there is an extra charge). The facilities are also used by the local community and lots of regional and national sports groups. This wider use helps to generate income for the further development of facilities and associated services.
