Hi, I’m Kim Delaney and I’m running for AirTV Station Manager. I’ve been involved with AirTV since my first year; I was equipment officer in my second year and I am currently the Deputy Station Manager. I’ve been making videos since 2002, and have since made over 70 videos (from cooking shows to stop-motions). AirTV is a vital society, because it offers students a chance to make videos from the moment they arrive at university and develop their technical skill as filmmakers, whereas Film & Media students looking to get experience with equipment would otherwise have to wait until their Third Year. Because of this, AirTV needs to be more than just an equipment lending service. It needs to be a society that encourages the development of skills. MY VISION: - Increase the quality of the shows by training the members on proper filmmaking techniques. This will be in several ways: - Better communication by informing the member on what’s happening, through regular emailing and posters, and scheduling events further in advance. - More cooperation with the other media societies Brig and Air3, especially in advertising and communication between similar departments. - A more cohesive and friendly society, with many more group activities and social gatherings. My vision may be ambitious, but the important thing is that it can and will happen. Thanks for reading!
- Establish regular weekly shows in the Studio and Long Bar at lunchtime, starting from Freshers Week until exam time. To ensure there is enough footage for weekly shows, we will have a rotating schedule of serial programs from our News, Sport, Creative, and Music teams, and additional content made by the members.
o Holding weekly workshops on all elements of filmmaking- pre-production, production, and post-production- for different skill levels (beginners and advanced).
o Continuation of the successful Writer’s Room and the newly created Editing Team to help handle the pre-production and post-production of new material.
o Bringing in guest speakers to give members critical and inside perspectives of what it’s like to actually be a filmmaker and how to be a better one.
o Arranging work experience with existing production companies so that our members can learn from professionals.
- Fundraising through advertising in our shows and on our posters, and through DVD sales, to enable us to:
o Buy better equipment, with an emphasis on getting another editing computer. This is especially important because we can no longer edit over the weekend due to shorter opening times at the Robbins Centre, decreasing our editing time by nearly a third and adding to the demand of the current editing computer.
o Have a Winter Screening, similar to the Oscars. This will showcase films made between the start of the year and the screening, rewarding the best. This will encourage more production from members in this first half of the year, rather than just in the run up to the Oscars.
