Hi, I’m Alex, a third year Philosophy student. Having been at this university for a fair few years, I have spoken to a lot of my fellow students and know what they want. I am especially fond of helping new clubs and societies get on their feet, either by helping get them started or by being a member. Although I have spent many years speaking to others in an unofficial capacity, over the last year I have been a returning undergraduate representative for SUSA and have had students come to me with their concerns. I like to think that I can make a difference at SUSA and I want to continue making a difference by being your Vice President of Services. I want to make the union work for students with as much student participation as possible. But this can only be done if SUSA as a whole is shown to be an approachable, accountable and transparent union, even more so than it already is. Turning up to Studio for a pint on occasion helps, but it’s not enough. Therefore I will move to extend the opportunity for students to actively contribute to the progression of SUSA by: • Increasing the frequency of Council meetings. I will improve the transparency of SUSA’s decision making process by: • Making a basic summary of all council meetings available within 24 hours. • Providing twice weekly drop-in hours with the VP Services. Entertainment: • Work with the Ents team to provide nights that we as students want. I will further integrate and develop clubs and societies by: • Working with the Web Team to expand C&S facilities on SUSA Online. For SUSA So vote for me, Alex Dickson, for your Vice President for Services.
• Offering more than one Senate during the academic year.
• Making Council and Executive meetings more welcoming and accommodating to observer.
• Providing a no-jargon alternative to all applicable SUSA documentation.
• Making minutes and agendas more easily available on SUSA Online.
I will make SUSA more approachable by:
• Promoting and improving the services already available through SUSA.
• Turning the SUSA Office into a ‘one-stop-shop’ for all student concerns.
• Open Glow and the long bar as many nights as possible.
• Organise more live nights, especially for Stirling based bands.
• Reviewing the current system for establishing a society.
• Actively encouraging and making it easier for clubs & societies to attend events which are significant to them.
• Actively helping any Club or Society with fund-raising ideas or any other help they require, especially liberation campaigns.
We will further the interests of the association by:
• Continuing the campaign for a larger block grant from the university.
• Enforcing the zero tolerance policy with regards to the intimidation of any SUSA representative by any student.
• Truly making SUSA every students’ “second home” through continued enforcement of the Equal Opportunities Policy and full utilisation of the support network available.
