Chris Baxter
#1 for Vice President (Welfare & Education)

Hi there, I’m Chris Baxter, this year’s Vice President (Welfare & Education). Since June ‘06 I have provided a Welfare service which has answered more student enquiries in 8 months than in the whole of the previous year. I have brought back our Nightline facility after a whole semester of inactivity. By forging good relationships with the University I have guaranteed your right to re-assessment and made sure your voice is heard by the decision makers. We have achieved so much but there is never room for complacency and I am standing for re-election so that I can use my experience to build on this success and implement some exciting new ideas.

Please come and quiz me on Election Day but for now here are some of the things I will do if you vote to re-elect Chris Baxter as SUSA Vice President (Welfare & Education):

• Establish a brand new Advice and Support Centre within the Robbins Centre

• Start the process of gaining National Telephone Helpline accreditation for Nightline

• Reward our dedicated team of Welfare volunteers with a recognised qualification

• Work with the Sports Union to deliver Sport for All – all the time

• Expand the Buddy system I set up for new students to include every single student at Stirling

• Provide a dedicated Clubs and Societies space out with the Robbins Centre

• Work with the University to make Stirling famous for leading practice in Employability

• Further SUSA’s excellent relationship with University Support Services

• Expand the range of SUSA information and support materials I have already produced

• Make sure the new library has all the facilities students need

• Continue to work with and promote our Liberation Campaigns

• Protect our Equal Opportunities Policy

• Further reinforce our commitment to safe space and corporate – social responsibility in all SUSA venues

• Lobby the new Holyrood government to keep our Education free from fees

• Work with the University to make the induction programme for new students more meaningful

• Go the extra mile to provide representation to students at the Highland and Western Isles Campuses

Thanks for taking the time to read my manifesto. I hope you will choose to vote for me on the 19th and 20th March.
