Equal Opportunities
Equality is at the heart of the Union and the campus community. Discrimination of any kind is not tolerated, and as you can see from the members of the Union team, we have student officers for most groups, who you can contact should you want advice, support or if you just want to get involved in each of the groups they run.
The Union also has an active Equal Opportunities Policy, which affects all decisions and actions the Union takes and is central to what we do. Below is this policy.
The Union values the diversity of all of our members and staff. We are dedicated to maintaining equal opportunities for all of our members and staff regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion or sexuality. No members or staff are to be harassed or discriminated against on the basis of age, disability, gender, race, religion or sexuality.
The Union is committed to maintaining equal access to all it’s members to all services that it provides, taking into account the Black Students’ Group, Disabled Students’ Group, LGBT Group and the Women’s Group who have autonomy and as such are only open to self defining Students of African, Asian and Caribbean Heritage (Black Students’ Group); Disabled Students (Disabled Students’ Group); LGBT Students (LGBT Group); and Women (Women’s Group) and on these grounds may refuse access to any students who do not self define into the group.
No member should be refused access to any club or society on the grounds of age, disability, gender, race, religion or sexuality if they are a full member of the Association. Neither should any member be refused access to the building, unless disciplinary measures are pending, or taken against them.
In turn, no member will discriminate or harass any members or staff on the grounds of age, disability, gender, race, religion or sexuality whilst on the Union premises as stated in the Constitution, or disciplinary procedures will be started against them.
This is a statement of intention that an equal opportunities policy will be implemented in all areas of the Union.
Liberation Campaigns
A crucial part of the Union Welfare are its autonomous Liberation Campaigns, which are:
These campaigns are ran by their elected Liberation Officers and are totally autonomous in their decision making, with each of their respective campaigns only ever being shaped and control by students who self-define to that group.

Other Equality Campaigns
As well as our Liberation Campaigns there are also provisions for other groups who often need a greater voice and addition support and representation. These are:
