LGBT Officer Manifesto

Hi, I’m Grant and am currently a Third year Computer science student at Stirling University. I’m 21 years old and am self defined as gay. I am currently a member of the LGBT society and would like to take this opportunity to give something back. But this isn’t about me, it’s about you! And about me representing you, the LGBT community of Stirling and what I can do for you. I believe the role of LGBT officer is to represent his/her local LGBT community and to continue the on going campaign for liberation. As well as providing support and advice via one-to-one drop in sessions.

If elected as LGBT officer, the main objectives I want to achieve are:

Better awareness of LGBT issues and services

More LGBT friendly events and campaigns

Working closely with the LGBT society

Better awareness of LGBT issues and available services and support

Campaigns promoting
- Sexual health
- Coming out
- And other relevant LGBT issues, and highlighting key LGBT dates through the year
Better promotion of existing LGBT support services available
Updating and improving the LGBT section of the SUSA website, separate from the LGBT society website. Giving information and links as well as information on drop in sessions
Develop the idea of a LGBT leaflet to be freely available to students:
- Promoting support available,
- Information about the LGBT society,
- Pre-planned events,
- Sexual health
- Contact information for the LGBT officer as well as the various officers that are part of the LGBT Society and their drop in session details
- Information about other LGBT Services available outside the university

Events

Fundraising events in conjunction with the LGBT society with profits going towards improved publicity, services and to help fund future events and campaigns
Campaigns throughout the year, including events for LGBT History month and World AIDS day.
Plan and introduce more varied and LGBT friendly social events on campus
Organise events to promote tolerance, awareness and equality within the LGBT community at the university and the local area

Teaming up with the LGBT society

Teaming up with the LGBT society and play more of an active role in bringing in new members to the society, and organising LGBT social events and campaigns.
