Jamie MacDonald

Jamie MacDonald #1 for Sports Union President

The union’s work over the last year, to support and develop, to entertain and engage, has been focused on you, the students, and we think why stop there? There is so much that we have done this year which we can build on and improve in the coming year. There are so many students and so many issues that we can unite together to ensure that the actions and opinions of every student matter.  And that is why we as a team have decided to run in this election.

Make it Matter vote Rhianna, Jamie, Mark and Ross online on the 22nd/23rd of March

What we will deliver for students:

Increase Sports Clubs Budgets to £25,000 – this year we’ve increased sports clubs budgets from £6k to £14k. Next year we will up this to £25k so our clubs continue to improve.

Implement £40,000 worth of coaching across the Sports Union – This year I secured this funding for clubs allowing them to develop and improve to their best. Next year we have guaranteed the same funding.

Have at least 35 clubs with qualified coach – This year the number of club coaches increase from around 10 to 21

Increase capital equipment funding to £5,000 – This year I increased spending from £580 to £3,000

Increase BUCS and SUS events at Stirling This year we hosted the BUCS Cross Country bringing in £3k to the SU and Athletics Clubs

Set up the Club’s Academy Training Initiative – This was promised last year and I will ensure this is in place in April 2010

Strategic plan for the Sports UnionThis is integral to ensuring that the increased Sports Union funding continues – we are using your feedback to shape this

Host the first ever ‘Stirling Games’ -  A mini Olympics at Stirling set in April 2011 across at least 10 sports – This will boost our profile and raise much needed funds

Reward work done within Sports Clubs, Clubs and Socs and Course Reps – Nationally recognised accreditation for the hours of work students put into student activities, giving them experience and skills for after university.

Fight for Free Wednesday Afternoons – more and more students are getting classes on Wednesday afternoons, this is causing problems for people who want to get involved in sport or who have to work to fund themselves through uni. We will win back Wednesday afternoons for students!

Online sports and non sports clubs membership system – over 40% of students are involved in sports clubs or non sports clubs and societies; this brings with it a lot of administration. We will develop an online registration system letting you join what you want by simply logging onto your portal.

Reinvent the Glow deal – Sports and non sports clubs used to raise over 30K a year through this scheme and we are sure that this can happen again. Working with clubs and sports clubs in collaboration we will run nights that students want with all ticket money going to those clubs that were involved.

Creating your Students’ Union – A bar that reflects the achievements of your clubs
