I’ve been involved in the Union for the last year. I’m running for President of the Students Union because I’m fed up of the Union talking about change that we can’t see. All the sabbaticals for the past two years have focused on procedure, process and finances. I believe that a Student Union is there to focus on students and that we need change that will actually affect your lives, a change that you can see.
If you elect me I’ll focus on change which actually matters to, and affects you. I’ll ensure you get better fridges and cupboards in halls, a night club which you decide how to use and a University which supports you finding a job, you can see my whole manifesto below.
I am running in a team with Tony Gillespie for Sports Union President, Andy Cuthbertson for VP Activities and Development, and Jacob Longstaff for VP Education and Engagement. We are running against current sabbaticals, who promised things last year and have spent the whole year on process and rebranding the Union not actually making anything better and not doing anything which directly affects students.
We are really keen to see a union which values your opinions, makes changes that improve your lives and is there for you; it’s Your Union.

My Manifesto
University
Getting a job is the main reason why we come to University. The University get reviewed by the Quality Assurance Agency in the next 2 years. They’ll be keen to demonstrate that help your employability. We’ll get employability embedded in your degree.
Your extra-curricular activities should be on your University transcript. For the past 2 years all the Union has done is have meetings and it’s got us nowhere. We’ll involve you in lobbying the University to ensure that the time you spend as a course rep or club president is recognised by the University.
There will be massive cuts in University funding next year. This could affect your course, the number of books the library buys or your sports union funding. We’ll make sure these cuts don’t affect your degree, or front line services by making sure you’re involved in the decisions.
Your induction into University often leaves you confused about timetables and lost in Cottrell. We’ll create student friendly YouTube videos about how to figure out your timetable, navigate Cottrell and the basics of coming to Universtiy.
Accommodation
Standards in University Accommodation aren’t good enough. Residential Services ignores the Union because the sabbaticals just have meetings. You need better kitchen fridges, freezers, cupboards and cookers.
The University is reviewing how they develop student accommodation. In many Universities this means Privatised Accommodation. We’ll oppose any attempt to privatise student flats by getting you involved in campaigns that demonstrate the need for the University to listen to you.
NUS won a tenancy deposit scheme last year, we’ll make sure that the details of how it works are centred around students not landlords.
Students will save the University £40,000 this year in energy bills and yet students only get £3000 of that back. We’ll increase the amount of money which goes into your pockets.
Private accommodation can cost a fortune in bills. We’ll use upcoming Housing legislation to get landlords to improve the insulation of their properties, like in social housing.
Finances
University funding needs to be reviewed. We’ll ensure that NUS and Stirling students are at the centre of creating the principals of a new funding model. We’ll let you know what’s happening and seek your opinions.
Glow has been an issue for years, rather than assume what you want from a club we’ll actually ask you! We’ll present 3 different models of a night club and ask you to vote on it.
We have a campus full of marketing and computing students, we’ll use the skills of students in the running of their Union. We don’t need to pay thousands of pounds a year for jobs students will do for free as interns or placements.
Despite the rebrand the Union still looks run down. We’ll ensure that proper investment in the Union is done to make your lives better, not rearranging offices.
The Union
Highlands’s representation has slowly been getting better, but it relies on the work of handful of officers. We’ll find funding for part-time sabbatical to help students who give up their time to represent Highland and Islands students.
Nurses don’t feel included in the Union. The bars should be open for their use over summer and they need better representation. We’ll have regular meetings scheduled around student placement times to get your views.
The current sabbaticals can’t even engage their own officers let alone 10,000 students. We’re passionate about getting you involved in your Union and making change you can see.
