Who is on Council?
The Union Council is made up of elected students from across the student body.
To ensure that every student has a fair voice and equal voice most of the representatives on Council are proportionately elected from their academic course, with the departments with larger numbers of students have more reps than those with fewer. That way every student knows who their reps are, can run to become a rep and the reps can be held to account.
As well as Course Reps all of Union’s elected officers automatically get a place, with many of these providing voices for other often under represented parts of the student community, such as international, LGBT, mature, women, disabled and black students. Similarly there are also representatives for those from the external campuses and some speaking on behalf of those in University Accommodation.
