Election Schedule 2010

Below is a plan of how the Union Elections will run this year. A little warning: all deadlines are strictly kept to.

 

Officer Positions

 Highlands and Islands Officer

             Represents the Inverness and Stornoway campuses on all relevant Union,  University and external bodies.
Works directly with relevant Sabbatical Officers in identifying local issues for those campuses and campaigning for change to better the student experience.
Only students at Inverness or Stornoway can run for this position.
 
               Postgraduate Officer
              Represents postgraduate issues in the University, the Union and the wider community.
Works with the national postgraduate campaign.
 
Mature Students Officer
Coordinates and autonomously leads the Mature Students campaign on the campuses.
Represent the views of mature students to the Unoin, the University and the wider community.
 
Black Students Officer
Coordinates and autonomously leads the black students campaign on the campuses.
Represents the views of black students to the Union, the University and the wider community.
 

Trustee Position (1 place)

Seeks in good faith to ensure that the Union acts in a manner that is consistent with its purposes.
Oversees strategic direction of the Union.
Ensures financial viability and sustainability of the Union.

Ensures the Union complies with all relevant governing documents, charity law etc.

 

NUS Delegates (4 places) 
You can run for this alongside any other Officer or Trustee position. And unlike other positions, students can nominate up to four people (it's just one for all other positions).
Want to have your voice heard on a national level? Got an opinion on what the student movement should be doing or what change is most needed for students? Run to be a delegate to National Union of Students events and make sure Stirling's voice is heard on a National level.

You must be available on these dates:

6th Novemeber NUS Scotland Council
5th -6th March NUS Scotland Conference
3 days in April for NUS National Conference


Nominations Open
Monday 27th September 12.00pm - Union Office
Forms become available for you to pick up from the Union Office, for you to start getting those all important nominations. You need 30 for all the positions except Highland and Islands Officer, which needs 15.

Prospective Candidates meeting
Wednesday 30th September - 3.00pm - Union Clubs Room
Whether you're running for the first time you're an old hack, pop in for advice on everything from how to get your nominations to writig manifestos to poster design. There'll be a briefing for those of you running for the Trustee position too.

Design & Printing Service
Monday 27th September to Monday 4th October (9.00am -5.00pm) Mailboxes Etc
Pop in for an hour of poster designing time with Mailboxes. Remember to include your name, what you're running for, the date of elections (18th&19th October), and the Union logo. The deadline for getting all nominations in with your mainfesto and publicity design is 12.00pm on October 4th so don't leave it too late!

Nominations Close
Monday 4th October - 12.00pm - Union Office
Deadline day. Get all your nominations, forms, manifesto & publicity into us by midday sharp!

Candidates Briefing
Monday 4th - 3.00pm - Union Meeting Room
Now you’re officially a candidate, this is your chance to meet your opponents, see their publicity, book your stalls, and receive an important briefing from us before the chaos begins. This is compulsory for all candidates.

Trustee & Finance Briefing
Informal drop in after nominations close on October 4th and before October 18th. Union Office
Your opportunity to find out in more detail how the Union financially fits together and is doing and a compulsory briefing from Audrey, the Chief Executive, on what it means to be a Charity Trustee.


Candidates Publicity Pick-up
Monday 11th October - 12.00pm - Union Office
Here’s when you can pick up your publicity from the Union office – and get campaigning!

Candidates Campaign Training
Friday 11th October- Atrium - 2.00pm
Now you have your publicity here are some tips on what to do with it. A campaigns training session with hints and tips from previous elections and a question and answer session on all those 'what if' questions. 

Candidates Meeting
Monday 18th October - 9.00am Union Meeting room
Get together for one last chat about groundrules before you get the vote out. A good chance to get yourself ready for the two days of campaiging that await.

Voting Opens
Monday 18th October - 9.30am
Online voting finally opens, with the Atrium being the centre of it all.

Candidates Meeting
Tuesday 19th October - 9.00am Union Meeting room
Prepare yourself for another day of campaiging hard with your fellow candidates and catch up over how the previous day has gone.

Voting Closes
Tuesday 19th October - 6.15pm
Voting closes at 6.15 sharp and all goes quiet.

Election Count Live
Tuesday 19th March - 7.00pm - The Union
Head to Glow in the Union to see the results announced live. Then stick around for those beautiful live music sounds at Transmission.

Cleanup Deadline
Friday 22nd October - 12.00pm
You’re deadline for getting all your publicity down, away and recycled. Get it all cleaned up then you can enjoy a well deserved rest over midsemester break.
