In today’s climate of financial difficulty and low employment opportunities it is becoming increasingly more competitive for graduates to find that job of their dreams. Employers are now looking at not only on academic performance and extra-curricular activities but specific transferable skills and essential work experience that give graduates the relevant skills, knowledge and leadership to be successful in the working world.

Time management, public speaking, and team leading are skills all graduates will find useful, and while some degree courses introduce these skills, they do not always offer opportunities to harness them. This lack of development has lead to the creation of a programme specifically designed to build, improve and encourage key skills for employability.

The University of Stirling Students’ Union has created a programme aimed at benefiting students, employers and the local community. The student leadership programmelaunched this September, will allow students to develop their own skills, while assisting their peers and the wider community. The student leadership programmeconsists of three   levels; Bronze, Silver and Gold, run over the course of three years.

Participants in the Bronze level will improve their time management, presentation and communication skills, culminating in group presentations to their peers. Silver level participants will harness skills gained from the Bronze level, and will go on to lead groups and develop projects within the University. Gold level leaders will have the opportunity to run a large project offering a service to the local community, using the skills available to them from their degree programmes.

The services provided to the local community will be voluntary, and will further develop the University’s and the students’ place in the wider community, providing new invaluable experiences to students and beneficial services to the community. This ensures our best graduates are leaving University with the best possible experience, for them and for us.

If you want to take part in this amazing opportunity and developing yourself to the best you can be. fill in this application form and hand it into the union office. Don't miss out!
