My name is Emily Chapman and I am currently in my first year of my BA(hons) in Film, Media and Sports studies. I was elected on to SUSA as the Sports Representive in Semester one, from there i was elected on to the Welfare and Education Committee, the Services Committee, the Student Activities Committee and the Finance Committee where I was elected as the chair of the Finance Committee.
 
Since being elected as a Course Rep. I have been involved in several aspects of SUSA, from doing Ticket Sales in the Atrium during Re-Fresher’s week to helping with campaigns such as In the Red and the referendum about the Tenants’ Bill of rights in early October ’08. I have also represented SUSA at the NUS Scotland Council last October and I will be representing SUSA again at the NUS Scotland Conference and the National Conference in the next 4 weeks.
 
The next question to answer is why am I running for Publicity Officer? Over the past year I watched your Student Union rebuild it’s self and I think that we still have allot of work to do, and I want to be a part of that.
 
This year SUSA has not had a Publicity Officer and I feel that your Union needs a Publicity Officer, to keep you up to date about what is happening at your student union. I want to let you know what great deals on food and drink you can get in Studio and the Long bar. What nights are happening at The Robbins Centre during Semester and Fresher’s/Re-fresher’s week.
 
After to speaking to some of the Students, it seems that you want more Publicity for your Clubs and Societies. Elect me as your No#1 Publicity Officer and I will work with your Club or Societies to help you get the Publicity that you want. I will also help you to Develop your Minisite on SUSA online website. I would also work with the Students Activities Officer to publicise the Main events for the Clubs and Societies so that we can make you as a club well known.
 
Aswell as working with the Clubs and Societies, I would work with the Campaigns Officer and the Groups (such as the LGBT group and Women’s group) to get their campaigns and events in Atrium well publicised and to get posters up in the Atrium on the Events Day.
 
Whilst I have been living in First Year halls I have noticed that SUSA do not get to publicise their events. One of my aims is to change this so that we can get more First Year Students involved in every area of SUSA.
 
During Refreshers week SUSA ran a survey called Shape It, after being allowed to review these result by the SUSA president, I have noticed that some students are not aware of services that SUSA provide. I would like to see that change and publicise the services of SUSA both around Campus and on the SUSA website.
 
As I said before over the past year I watched your Student Union re-build itself and I want to be apart of that. YOU can make that happen if you vote me your No#1 Publicity Officer. I pledge to achieve I have stated above and to always be approachable to all students.
