Brian O’Hara #1 for Sports Union President
Your future’s bright, your future’s Brian!
My name is Brian O’Hara and I am a 4th Year Sports Studies student. I am currently Sports Union Vice President and have been a member of the Sports Union Executive for the past two years, working as secretary last year. As Vice President I have been working closely with the current President throughout the year and this has provided me with the necessary experience and knowledge that is needed to run a successful Sports Union, it has also allowed me to acknowledge the areas that can be improved upon.
I am also the current President of the Men’s Gaelic Football team and have been for the past two years. I have been a member of the Men’s Gaelic football committee since I started university in 2005 and have had various jobs on the committee, so I have a thorough understanding of how a successful club should be run. During my time as Gaelic President I have overseen the most successful period of the clubs history both on and off the field. The club’s finances are secure; it has more members than ever and has won more games this season than ever before!
Sport is such a big part of university life here at Stirling and by continuing to develop and promote sport the way it has been done in the past few years; we will hopefully build on the success from previous years and remain one of the best universities in Scotland for sports!
I feel I am the best candidate to represent YOU, I have the experience and ideas that will make the forth coming year the best that Stirling has ever had!
If elected I promise to
· Help secure a £600,000 investment for a coaching programme thatwill benefit ALL the sports clubs over the next 5 years. This investment will help each club to progress and will provide access to top coaches and assistance.
· Fight for greater access to training facilities and pitches so that YOUR club can train at times that suit YOUR members in order to optimize performance and participation
· Double the Capital Equipment Fund from £5000 to £10,000 so that YOUR club does not miss out on the equipment that it needs.
· Give the Sports Union the stability and continuity that my experience can bring. Due to a strong relationship with both the current Sports Union President and last years President coupled with the fact that I have had 2 years Sports Executive experience will allow me to ‘hit the ground running’
· Help to create a sustainable future for smaller clubs by guaranteeing an additional £15,000 funding.
· Endeavour to set up a Corporate Identity using a high quality top brand name. Such a concept would eliminate the long waiting time that every club has encountered when ordering kits, tracksuits, hoodies etc as a store of such items would be stored on campus.
· Increase accessibility to transport- I will strive to make sure that every club has a minimum of 1 qualified mini bus driver to help cut costs. This initiative would include the creation of a permanent ‘Transport Support Fund’ to help alleviate those clubs who struggle to pay transport costs.
