LGBT Officer - By-election

- Only one candidate stood.

Mark ChartersHey, hello and all that jazz,

My name is Mark; I’m a third year doing biology and education at this lovely University.

But... this isn't a me me me thing.

It’s a you you you thing.

It’s about representation.

Well to be specific it’s about representing your LGBT community.

A lot of people don’t even think that they have a LGBT community but this is just not true! Statistically, 1 in 10 people self define as being Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Trans. With a student population of 10,000, that’s quite a large community.

The LGBT officer is here to represent this community and campaign for its continued liberation. Now I have no false delusions that by running for LGBT officer I can truly represent all LGBT people within the university. However, by working closely within the LGBT society - which I am actively involved in as their vice president - and by making myself readily available to the wider LGBT community I hope to raise awareness about LGBT liberation and to deal with any issues concerning your LGBT community in the way you want.

If I become elected as your LGBT representative within SUSA I hope to:

• Establish the fact there is a LGBT community outside of the society and that they also need representation.
• Be readily available to provided advice or support through a well publicised weekly office hour
• Developing an accessible webpage within SUSA online giving information and references on key issues for LGBT people e.g. coming out, sexual health, issues in the work place, civil partnership.
• Raise awareness of LGBT rights and the laws associated to protect us through information days in the atrium and the website above.
• Campaign on issues which arise through communication with the LGBT community.

Remember this is your university, your LGBT community.

If you want them all represented fully... you know who to vote for...

It’s not about me, my opinions or boosting my CV.

It’s about you, your LGBT community and you having your say.
