On an unusually sunny day in the late-eighteenth century, as Robert Haldane and his young up-and-comer of an architect, Robert Adam, sat in the shade of a particularly bountiful chestnut tree surrounded by the very finest of flora and fauna the heart of Scotland had to offer. Mapping out plans for a rather splendid and impressive castle to punctuate the extensive estate, with intricate masonry and delicate interiors to put the best of aristocracy to embarrassment. Is it possible that on that day, over 200 years ago, the two men planned a tiny nook away from the main building? A nook so tucked away it could, by today’s standards be called nothing more than a basement? A hideaway for ragamuffins and harlots? A tiny den for the plotting of revolutions and ideas so vast they burst forth from the space like bombs of glitter and vinyl? A speakeasy space perfect for the likes of a radio station?
It seems so. As the very same basement hideout has indeed become home to Air3 Radio – and there is no place like it on this green earth.
